Front: Sharply raised “MIZPAH/E.A.R. S.A.R./NOV. 1. 1886”. Clasped hands in small rectangular insert of white marble. Corner quarter round decoration. Bold chamfers to edges and hinge line.
Rear: Strongly raised horse shoe with 4 leaf clover inside. Four flowers at corners. Bold chamfers to edges and hinge line.
Spine: Incised script: “O! Sister love/Tis a jewel/golden set/But no jewel/???????/compare With/my sister/Elizabeth”, between two raised bands.
Foredge: Coved and polished. Top and bottom pages flat and polished.

Very complex with extraordinary carving.  Only one seen with the word Mizpah.  Dealer claims book once owned by Sophia Krom (ne Goldberg), who died 20 years ago.
