Front: Carved, low relief center rondel depicting a 6-leafed plant; leafy branch decoration above and below rondel; all against a stippled background. Decorative elements are bordered by a raised, polished, double band.
Rear: Carved in low relief: “BURNS” surrounded by same leaf decoration as above and set against a stippled border. Decorative elements are surrounded by a double border comprised of a raised rope pattern and an a raised, polished outer border.
Spine: Carved in low relief: “POEMS” surrounded by same leaf decoration as above and set against a stippled border. Raised, polished, jagged edged band at top and bottom, each with an incised jagged line at center
Fore Edge: Flat, polished fore edge; top and bottom edges bear raised “binding” design at spine.
