Front: Low relief carving of a heart, with the word “HOPE” across it, placed atop an intersecting cross and anchor. Rectangular border around all. Raised portions are polished; their background surfaces are rough.
Back: Incised design of an upside down horseshoe with a profile bust of a woman with hair up and wrapped with a band. The words “GOOD” and “LUCK appear above and below the horseshoe/portrait segment. Rectangular border around all. Design elements are virtually flush with the surface and distinguished through polishing rather than depth. Background surfaces are rough.
Spine: Convex and polished but blank.
All page edges are flat and nearly flush with the covers. Page edges are “roughened” to distinguish from polished cover edges.
