D.N.E.C

SB-302

Front: Cross within a heart with rays. Arrow piercing heart. Below, “D.N.E. C”. Design appears to be by an unknown substance ( a hardened colored paste?) that fills incising. Reddish brown with tiny airholes.
Rear: Deeply carved and polished rose (?) with leaves.
Spine: Crosshatching and ribs with same paste, tan colored.
Foredge: Highly polished.

Initials likely that of an institution rather than a person, given the strong religious imagery.  Have no idea what the material filling the incising is.  But likely in the form of a paste when applied.
