Front: Incised, sideways across front: “BELLE. / 1877” (name and date separated by incised decorative flourish). Surrounded by an incised, double lined border with a row of dots between the lines.
Rear: Incised, sideways across back: “ ‘Blessed are / the pure in / heart.’.” Surrounded by an incised, double lined border with a row of dots between the lines.
Spine: Incised: “HOLY / BIBLE.” with an incised decorative flourish beneath. Very rounded, highly polished surface.
Fore Edge: Coved with very lightly incised lines designating pages. Top and bottom edges are straight with similar lightly incised lines.
